I can't join a multiplayer game / nobody can join my server. What's wrong?

Check your firewall and router settings! Remember: Win XP/Vista has its own firewall! The default port of Counter-Strike 2D is UDP Port 36963. Counter-Strike 2D also uses the TCP Port 80 for the U.S.G.N.

I can't find any servers in the serverlist!

This can be caused by an U.S.G.N. overload or blocking of the tcp port 80! Open the console after clicking at "net game" to get detailed informations about the problem. You can check the U.S.G.N. state at this website too (Serverlist)!
Alternative proceeding to join a server: Click at "join by ip" and paste the ip of the server you want to join.

How can I fight lags and bugs at online games?

Try to play with less players or find a faster server! You should not play with more than six players if the server has only a normal dsl connection! Don't forget to pause all downloads/uploads during online gaming!

Is there a dedicated server for CS2D?

Unfortunately there is no real dedicated server programm for Counter-Strike 2D.

How to play CS2D in a LAN? Is it possible?

Of course it is! Just setup a normal server and activate the "Hide/LAN" checkbox (this is only necessary if your LAN is connected to the internet and you don't want that people from the internet join!).
Other people in the LAN will have to join by using the "Join by IP" function (enter the local/LAN IP address of the server).
Please notice: LAN servers are NOT listed in the serverlist (it only works with internet connection).

What's "ping" and "ping timeout"?

A "ping" is a message which is sended from one pc to another one and back to check whether it is online and reachable. It is measured in milliseconds the message needed for its journey (1 sec=1000 millisecs).
A "ping timeout" means that a ping message has not been sent back within a timeframe which indicates that the remote pc is not reachable. Read the first question/answer if you are getting ping timeout errors!

Why do I get the error "Memory Access Violation"?

It's an internal bug of Counter-Strike 2D! It can have many various reasons. You can try the following steps to fix it:
- Download CS2D again (Maybe your download was damaged)
- Extract it completly to one dir (WinRAR recommended)
- Check your DirectX/Direct3D and install the latest version
- Install the latest or older drivers for your graphics card. You need a 3D graphics card which supports Direct3D and Windows 95/98/ME or XP to run CS2D!
If the error appears after clicking at "net game" you should check your firewall and router settings (see first question). It also can be evoked by using a proxy server. Multiplayer does NOT work with a proxy server.

I get the error "Unable to create 3D scene" when I run Counter-Strike 2D

Counter-Strike 2D requires a 3D graphics card which supports Direct3D! If your card supports Direct3D: Install the latest drivers and the latest version of DirectX!

There is only a black screen with displays in game?!

Your graphics card presumably doesn't support 3D with alpha (transparency)! You should be able to play without "Fog of War". You can type "sv_fow 0" in the console to disable it but you have to be the server!

Counter-Strike 2D has problems with my screen resolution. Any solution?

Try to run "CS2D -freesizemode.bat". It allows you to change the size of the Counter-Strike 2D window as you like it (side effect: it blurs all graphics).
You may also run it in a 640x480 window with "CS2D -windowed.bat"

Why do some graphics look so blurred?

This may happen with some graphics cards. Try other drivers or run "CS2D -highquality.bat".
It is normal that graphics look blurred if you run "CS2D -freesizemode.bat"!

Sniper weapons: What's the advantage of the zoom-mode?!

You should zoom because it increases the damage that your weapon is able to inflict.

I downloaded Counter-Strike 2D but I'm unable to extract/install it correctly. How does it work?!

Use WinRAR, WinZIP or another unpacker to extract it. Afterwards you will be able to play by running CounterStrike2D.exe or one of the *.bat-files. No setup/installation needed!

Can you add/fix XYZ in the next update?

No, there will be no updates. I'm currently working on a brand new CS2D. Stay tuned for more information at CS2D.com.
